At Athlone Castle Visitor Centre has seating for approx 16 inside and outside with café facilities serving a variety of refreshments. The Fáilte Ireland Tourist Office is located in the castle courtyard. There are lots amenities, restaurants and shopping opportunities in Athlone. Athlone Castle Visor Centre is situated directly across from the historic church of St Peter and Paul which features stained glass windows from the studios of Harry Clarke. The modern Luan Gallery is also nearby which hosts regular art exhibitions showcasing local and national artists and admission is free. Around the castle area are a number of restaurants and pubs including Séan’s Bar, Ireland’s oldest pub, while across the bridge is a wealth of hotels offering great accommodation deals. There is paid parking available in St Peter’s Square or in Connolly Street Car Park. For those with an interest in history, Athlone Castle, the nearby monastic settlement of Clonmacnoise, the 3500BC Meehambee Dolmen and Drum Heritage Centre make Athlone the perfect midlands heritage destination.
