Depending on the lenght of your boating holiday , departing from Carrick on Shannon you can explore some of the most beautiful lakeland regions in Ireland. Just 2 hours north of Carrick on Shannon is Lough Key which is a very popular destination among families. Here you can moor your cruiser with in view of the spectacular Castle Island and explore the wonderful Lough Key Forest Park. There are many attractions here including the Lough Key Experience with its Boda Borg adventure, there are electric bike and Segway tours of the park available from center also. Further into the park is the Zipit adventure world which allows children to attempt obstacle courses set 20 meters high in the tree tops. It is a very safe, fun and unique way of spending an afternoon. The lovely towns of Boyle and Knockvicar flank either side of the Lough and contain restaurants, pubs and shopping as well as some other family friendly activities. Cruising back towards Carrick on Shannon you can change course and travel up the Lough Allen Canal to the beautiful tourist towns of Battlebridge, Leitrim village and Drumshanbo. These are very popular places to visit and are well facilitated for mooring for the evening. One of the largest attractions in the area ‘The Arigna Mining Experience’ is near Drumshanbo and is certainly worth visiting.
From Leitrim Village you can choose to continue on north towards the Shannon-Erne canal with it locks and passage to the mystical Lough Erne or travel back to Carrick on Shannon and continue your journey south to the Lakes of Boderg, Bofin and Lough Ree. The most popular stops on this journey include the charming towns of Jamestown, Dromod and Rooskey.
