Acres Lake is located close to the town of Drumshanbo and will produce good bream fishing and the chance of catching tench to about 5lb.This was always a popular water in years gone by and you will notice the old fishing stands along the left hand bank. Local anglers have revealed its modern-day potential to produce exceptional fishing all year round by fishing from the new boat moorings that put you sitting on a spot that would have been a 100 metre cast in the “old days”.
The secret here is not to fish too far out!
The water is deep off the main floating platform and I’d suggest three fishing options, a 12 metre pole, at least a 2SSG slider if you want to float fish or an underhand lob for feeder fishing, because if you start whacking a swim feeder great distances, you might not catching anything at all.
Large fish are likely, so think about tackling up with at least 3lb main line and start on a 14s hook with bigger baits such as four maggots, worm, corn and worm, or similar combinations.
Because of its easy access this is a good choice of early morning or evening fishing and do bear in mind that during the summer months there could be boats looking for somewhere to tie up.
