Meelick is 6 km east of Eyrecourt in County Galway and is located on the Shannon.
At this point the river is wide and winds by islands, streams and weirs. At its widest point it is over 1½ km. It is best accessed via Lusnagh village near Banagher. Salmon fishing on the east bank is mainly done by boat and the best places to launch is at the canal mouth or Victoria Lock. On the west bank or the river access is found off the Eyrecourt / Banagher Road at Kilnaborris and you can fish from the bank on this side. Wading is possible and necessary in some places but the water is fast here. The best time to fish here is from the end of June and this location attracts anglers from all over Europe. During the spring there is occasional spring salmon but this is chiefly regarded as a grilse fishery. Each season produces 200-300 fish approx. A boat is essential if you wish to properly fish this stretch.
