Do it your way !

Relax, breathe deeply, and let the Blueways of Ireland take you on a magical adventure through the heart of the Irish landscape

In October 2014 the Blueways consisted of a 16km trail from Drumshanbo to Carrick-on-Shannon; in 2016 the Blueway network is set to get bigger and better with new trails being developed on and along the Shannon and Shannon-Erne waterways. The vision now is that by the end of 2016 the Blueway network of paddling trails will increase to 200km, with a myriad of wonderful options for cycling and walking in these beautiful scenic environments.

This year will see the upgrade and extension of the current Shannon Blueway walking trail from Drumhauver Bridge to Battlebridge Lock. Planning permission has been received to construct a boardwalk linking Drumhauver Bridge to the town of Drumshanbo. These works are due to commence before the end of 2016.

The existing Shannon Blueway, Drumshanbo to Carrick-on-Shannon canoe trail will also be extended from 16km to over 100km. Currently in development; 20km heading west towards Boyle and Lough Key, 50km south to Lanesborough and a 30km looped trail from Drumshanbo around the shores of Lough Allen.

In addition to the above developments there is also the new Shannon-Erne Blueway, a 63km trail form Leitrim Village to Belturbet, covering towns and villages along the trail such as Ballinamore. This Blueway is set to be launched in the summer of 2016 with activity and commercial providers all excited to provide you with that brilliant Blueway experience.

This extensive network of Blueway trails will generate an increase in recreation on the waterways of Ireland and also provide benefits to the counties of Cavan, Longford, Leitrim and Roscommon.
