The River Suck

The River Suck is approx 50 miles in length and mostly flows through Co. Roscommon and East Galway. The River rises on the Mayo/Roscommon border and passing from Lough O’Flynn, flows in a general south easterly direction before joining the Shannon at Shannonbridge.

The water is fast flowing, unpolluted and full of stretches with wild flowers and water meadows which attract flocks of wild fowl all year round. The scenery in this part of Ireland is stunning and the Suck flows through some beautiful towns including, Ballinasloe, Ballyforan, Mount Talbot, Athleauge, Castlecoote and Ballygar. The river Suck and its tributaries are noted as unspoilt waters away from the crowds and are more of a secret to the larger Shannon nearby. You will find mixed fishing here with good stretches of brown Trout and Bream. You will also find Rudd and Tench. In some of the lakes there are good stocks of Bream, Roach and hybrids. The most popular locations for coarse fishing are along the virtually unexploited 40km stretch from Willsbrook Bridge to Mount Talbot Bridge.
