Every summer in July Drumshanbo plays host to the award winning Joe Mooney Summer School. This is a week long festival of traditional music, song and dance.
Classes run from Monday to Saturday from 9.30 to 13.00 and include set dancing, button accordian, piano accordian, concertina, fiddle, flute, tin whistle, uilleann pipes, harp, banjo, mandolin, bodhrán, traditional singing, sean nós singing, sean nós/set dancing for children. Beginners classes are available in set dancing, tin whistle and bodhrán.
There is also a full programme of workshops, ceilí, recitals and concerts throughout the week along with impromptu sessions around the town.
